During the 1990's Russell was taught by the UK's leading Jazz Musicians, such as Tim Garland, Stan Sulzmann, Ian Carr, Jeff Clyne, Niki Iles and Pete Churchill.
Russell is a confident and inspiring teacher in any setting, as comfortable at the front of a packed lecture theatre as he is on a one on one basis, he has over 10 years experience in Jazz education. Russell's forte does'nt only lie in the grasps of theory and technique, but also the Psychological understanding of his students to overcome their personal hindrences.
He draws on all his influences, experiences and in depth understanding of Jazz to lead students through a person centred learning experience.
His first step into Jazz education started as a workshop leader at the well known Wavendon Jazz Summer School established by John Dankworth and since then Russell has gone onto teach and deliver workshops in a number of educational institutions.

Saxophone teacher and coach on the MUMUK Isle of White Easter Jazz Course, Wavendon Summer Course & Easter Course, Bracknell Jazz Weekend Workshops.
Performed in secondary schools and sixth forms throughout UK in collaboration with J.O.E.Y. (Jazz Opportunity Education Youth) scheme sponsored by the record label “33records”.

your reply more than gives the answer, and for that, thank you so much.
I do practise more away from the horn than with it, singing
through lines, and noting them down if recurrent, but they tend to
be all bebop based, and I do have slight difficulty singing
outside the tonality. What you say about it depending on register
and context confirms what I thought might be the case, but I
wanted to check with someone who has proved in their playing that
it sounds brilliant!
